Argentine Group Opens Cold Terminal at Cádiz
FTZ News: PTP Group of Argentina has opened a refrigerated and frozen cargo terminal at the Port of the Bay of Cádiz. The site sits in the La Cabezuela-Puerto Real basin and is set up to handle traffic moving between South America, Africa and Europe.
Mundo Marítimo reported that this is the company’s first owned terminal in Europe. It gives PTP its own space for storage, inspection and distribution of perishable products. The terminal has 20,000 pallet positions spread across 12 chambers for chilled and frozen goods. It also includes ADT and LAME customs warehouses, plus a border inspection center that can handle plant and meat products.
The quay runs 500 meters. It can take conventional reefer vessels, roll-on/roll-off ships and containers. Short-sea services and consolidated cargo coming from North Africa are also part of the traffic the terminal is handling. For moves inland, PTP plans to use rail through its intermodal terminal at Fuenlabrada, roughly 25 kilometers from Madrid, to reach other points in Europe.
The layout puts discharge, border inspection, cold storage and dispatch next to each other, mainly for agri-food products headed into Europe. The company has linked the opening to the EU-Mercosur agreement. Provisional application of the agreement started on May 1, 2026./.
