Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul Weighs Export-Processing Zone for Digital Services
FTZ News: Eduardo Leite, governor of Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul, raised the idea of an export-processing zone focused on digital services during a meeting with Vice President Geraldo Alckmin. The proposed zone would target data centers, cloud computing, information processing and related technology work that could serve foreign markets.
State officials say the plan is still in the design stage. They are looking for a private company to help shape and develop the site. Any project would also need federal approval and the usual legal steps before it could operate. No company has been selected, and no investment has been announced under the proposal./.
