USA’s Zone of the Month (September 2026): FTZ 62
FTZ News is naming Foreign-Trade Zone 62, at the Port of Brownsville, America’s zone of the month for September.
On Sept. 30 the port broke ground on Port Alpha. Saronic brought more than $3 billion in private capital. The Texas governor’s office says the yard will support up to 10,000 jobs and puts the stated economic effect at $264.5 billion. At the opening, annual shipbuilding capacity was given as 150,000 gross tons, more than double current U.S. commercial shipbuilding capacity. The vice president and the governor were at the ceremony.
The Port of Brownsville holds the grant for FTZ 62. That is the zone. No Foreign-Trade Zones Board production notice for Saronic was published in September. What is on the record is the investment and the groundbreaking, not a customs status for the yard.
The rest of the month did not come with a dollar jump of this size. FTZ 12 in McAllen extended its service area to Willacy County, with no investment figure. On Sept. 28 the board authorized Essai to make semiconductor test equipment in Chandler, Arizona, inside FTZ 75, with no job or capital number. Notices for Lilly, Merck and Enerflex were still applications.
The largest documented late-September jump inside a port that holds an FTZ grant was the $3 billion Port Alpha groundbreaking in Brownsville. The corresponding zone is FTZ 62./.
