Latvian Ports Team Up on Major Digital Upgrade at Liepaja

FTZ News: Liepaja Special Economic Zone has finished work on what officials are calling the most ambitious joint digital project ever launched among Latvia’s major ports.

According to the Liepāja Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Authority, The new platform, developed together with the Freeport of Riga Authority and the Freeport of Ventspils Authority, pulls ship arrivals, berth information, port services, permits, contracts, and payments into one system. Users can also track vessels in real time and pull up digital maps of port infrastructure.

For companies doing business at the Port of Liepaja, the changes are practical:

- Faster sharing of information
- Less paperwork and fewer cases of re-entering the same data
- Smoother coordination between different parts of the port operation

The system is already linked with Latvian Railways, the national SKLOIS system, and other port and government databases. Officials say it lays the groundwork for a single digital network covering Latvia’s main ports.

The project ran from December 2024 through August 2026 and was funded with 3.24 million euros from the European Union Recovery Fund./.
