Philippine Economic Zones Turn to Energy Monitoring to Help Firms Cut Costs
FTZ News: The Philippine Economic Zone Authority has agreed to let a Taiwanese company offer tools that help businesses in its industrial zones track electricity use and identify waste.
PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga and Andy Lai, president and chief executive of Yuan Ci Technology, signed a memorandum of understanding on Oct. 8. The company will make its Energy Management System available to firms registered in PEZA zones. The system allows companies to monitor consumption and adjust how they use power.
The agreement also includes pilot projects in selected ecozones so participating firms can test whether the technology produces measurable savings before deciding on wider use. Mr. Panga said competitive electricity costs remain one advantage of PEZA zones and that the authority is looking for practical ways to help companies manage those expenses.
The memorandum does not guarantee cost reductions. Any savings would depend on how individual companies use the data and whether they change their operations. The announcement also did not specify the number of pilot sites, the cost to participating firms or how long the trials will run. Those details will determine whether the partnership moves beyond the initial agreement.
