Pratt & Whitney Files Production Notices for Three U.S. Foreign-Trade Zones
FTZ News: Pratt & Whitney, a Division of RTX Corporation, has submitted notifications of proposed production activity to the U.S. Foreign-Trade Zones Board for its facility in North Berwick, Maine, within FTZ 186, and for facilities in Middletown, Connecticut, within FTZ 71, and Midland, Georgia, within FTZ 26, according to notices published Thursday.
The company proposes to manufacture aircraft engines, engine modules, and parts at the sites. Finished-product duty rates listed in the notices range from duty-free to 2.5 percent. Production activity would be limited to the specific products and foreign-status materials described in the notifications and later authorized by the Board.
The proposed foreign-status materials and components include steels, aluminum, nickel, titanium, copper, plastics, rubber, ceramics, fasteners, and other inputs. Certain materials may be subject to duties under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 or Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, depending on their country of origin. Where required, those materials must enter the zones in privileged foreign status, with applicable duties determined by their classification and condition at the time of admission.
The Board is accepting public comments through December 1.
