Latvia’s Free Ports and Liepāja SEZ Seek New European Partners
FTZ News: Latvian port authorities and companies are traveling to Dunkirk, France, this week to seek investment and commercial partnerships as they look to broaden industrial and energy activities at the country’s ports.
A delegation organized by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency will attend the AIVP World Conference and hold meetings from Nov. 3 to 6. Led by Ambassador Alise Balode, the group includes representatives from the Freeport of Riga, Ventspils Free Port and the Liepāja Special Economic Zone.
Economy Minister Viktors Valainis said the aim is to develop manufacturing and energy projects on port land. On Oct. 20, the Freeport of Riga signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korean firm Ecomethanol and a Latvian company to assess the potential for green methanol production at the port.
LIAA Director Ieva Jāgere said geopolitical changes have altered trade flows, prompting Latvian ports to seek new partners in industry and energy. The mission will focus on port infrastructure, logistics and renewable energy, including offshore wind supply chains./.
