TurboCam’s FTZ 21 Production Bid in South Carolina Faces Further Review
FTZ News: The Foreign-Trade Zones Board has decided that further review is warranted for a production request by TurboCam Inc. at its plant in Ladson, South Carolina, according to a notice published Nov. 5. The production activity described in the filing was not authorized.
The South Carolina Ports Authority, which runs FTZ 21, filed the notification on March 30 on the company’s behalf. The board published it for public comment on April 6. On Nov. 2 the board told the applicant that more review is needed. The company can seek authorization by filing a full application under the board’s regulations.
The original notice said TurboCam wanted to make turbocharger sliding nozzle ring assemblies. The foreign-status parts would have included actuator rods, steel spacers, rivets and nozzle rings.
Some of those parts could face extra duties under Section 122, Section 232 or Section 301, depending on the country of origin. The new notice does not explain why the board wants more review. The company can continue ordinary zone use for storage and distribution. Production would need separate approval./.
