Tensor Opens First European Office in Barcelona Free Zone
FTZ News: Tensor, a Silicon Valley company working on autonomous vehicles, has opened an office at DFactory Barcelona, the industrial technology center run by the Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium.
The company was founded in 2016 and is developing the Tensor Robocar, which it says can handle SAE Level 4 autonomous driving. The car is meant for both private owners and fleet operators. It has a folding steering wheel and retractable pedals. Tensor also licenses its driving system to automakers and suppliers.
Consortium officials Pere Navarro and Blanca Sorigué met with Tensor’s chief business officer, Hugo Fozzati, around the time of the announcement. The consortium said the company plans to develop its technology at the Barcelona site and hire engineers. Tensor already has offices in San Jose, Singapore and Dubai.
This is Tensor’s first European office. DFactory brings together companies working in robotics, automation and advanced manufacturing, so the location makes some sense for the kind of engineering work Tensor does. Still, the consortium gave no numbers on investment, how many people it expects to hire, or whether any manufacturing is planned in Spain. Without those details, it’s hard to tell how big a presence Tensor is actually planning.
